SUBJECT: Petition Concerning Removal of Sobe-Ku People
TO: Governor
Okinawa Gunto Government
1. Reference is made to your Memorandum No. 582, dated 28 September 1951 and two attached petitions; one from the Vice Mayor of Yomitan-son, the other from the Ku-Cho of Sobe-Ku, Yomitan-son.
2. This matter was the subject of consideration by this office upon a previous petition from the same village in July 1951. That petition was denied for the reason that the area is designated for an essential installation of the United States Air Force (see USCAR ltr to The Governor, Okinawa Gunto Government, 16 July 1951, subject, “etition from Yomitan Village”. The use for which the area is designated is of such a nature that there is no possibility of obtaining any change in plans by the Air Force.
3. You are hereby directed to advise the officials of Yomitan-Son that the instant petition is denied, and that plans for the removal of the residents from subject area must be accomplished without further delay in order to avoid undue complications.
